Camino Gardens

Camino Gardens is a noteworthy neighborhood in East Boca Raton due to both it’s odd history and the beautiful homes there today. It’s located just to the south of Camino Real Boulevard and just north of the El Rio canal which separates Broward and Palm Beach counties. The roads into (and out of) the community are not easily accessible by those who don’t know where they are going and the streets are seemingly designed to inhibit cars who don’t belong there from from driving through.

Let’s start with the crazy past of Camino Gardens, then work up to the present. Back in 1953 the land that is now Camino Gardens was a theme park for wild animals that were imported from Africa. It was known as Africa, USA and for the next eight years was a major tourist attraction in Boca Raton. Shortly after the park closed in 1961 the land was sold to developers who began to build the homes in Camino Gardens.

What makes Camino Gardens so attractive today is the beauty that encompasses the neighborhood. Most of the homes are uniformly painted (white or a pastel color), well maintained and have superbly manicured landscaping. They are also relatively small (2 & 3 bedrooms). Property values in Camino Gardens are quite high relative to many other nearby parts of town.
