Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club
Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club traces its roots back to the late 1950’s and to Arthur Vining Davis, who bought the land along with the adjacent Boca Raton Resort & Club. He introduced polo to Boca Raton in 1955 by constructing several fields south of the hotel, which is now where Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club sits. In 1958, Royal Palm Polo relocated to property on Glades Road and one year later moved to another 90-acre site down the road, currently where Houston’s Restaurant and Macaroni Grill are located. By 1959, Davis started construction of the neighborhood through his development company Arvida.
The community sits in an ideal location on the west side of the Intracoastal and just east of Federal Highway. It’s bordered on the north by Camino Real and on the south by the Hillsboro Inlet. There are approximately 688 homes in the community today. There are guardhouses at both entrances to the community, but it is not gated.
Not surprisingly, the value of the homes in Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club has increased exponentially from the time they were built. Originally the lots were sold for between $10,000 and $45,000. Homes with the best views (the ones directly on the Intracoastal or canals) fetched the higher figures. Teardowns in the community today typically fetch over $1,000,000.
The country club itself has made a number of improvements recently. These include:
- Renovation and re-grassing of the Jack Nicklaus designed golf course
- A new clubhouse for the yacht club
- New docks at the marina
